No survivors found after Ondo military aircraft crash — Aiyedatiwa
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has said no survivor has been found following Monday’s military aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, with rescuers recovering only parts of the wreckage.
Aiyedatiwa disclosed this during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, saying the aircraft had 32 people on board — 25 passengers and seven crew members.
He said the surveillance aircraft lost radio contact at about 9:15 a.m. while travelling from Benin to Lagos before plunging into a swamp near the Naval Forward Operating Base in Igbokoda.
“They saw the wreckage from the wings, some ID cards and uniforms indicating it was a military aircraft. The main body went deep into the swamp area. They haven’t been able to search the aircraft itself yet,” he said.
According to Channels Television’s report, as reported by Vanguard, rescue teams, including naval personnel, Amotekun and local officials, searched the area without finding survivors.
Aiyedatiwa said the Air Force and NSIB were investigating and would recover the black box.
