Peter Obi: Why I said I’m ready to die for votes In 2027
NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has clarified his controversial Port Harcourt remark about being “ready to die” for his votes in the 2027 election, insisting it was not a declaration of desperation or an incitement to youths.
Naija News reports that Obi, speaking on Arise News on Thursday, explained that the statement was a symbolic response to a supporter who had expressed readiness to defend their votes, meant to reassure supporters that he stood with them in protecting the electoral process.
On the broader question of vote integrity, the former Anambra State governor unveiled plans for a “dual transmission” system, under which every polling unit would transmit results directly to his campaign’s situation room alongside the official INEC process.
He stressed this would not amount to running a parallel electoral system, but rather a monitoring mechanism to ensure votes are counted and transmitted without manipulation.
Obi further insisted Nigeria must not be an exception when it comes to conducting free, fair and transparent elections, framing the initiative as part of his broader push for electoral accountability ahead of 2027.
