Ogun Imam explains why he returned Ogogo’s ₦25m after his death
The Chief Imam of Ilaro, Ogun State, Tajudeen Adewunmi, has explained why he returned ₦25 million entrusted to him by late Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, before his death, according to Punch Newspapers.
Speaking to BBC Yoruba, Adewunmi said Ogogo transferred the funds to complete his grandfather’s house, not for a mosque project as later rumoured. He said he documented the transaction and informed the actor’s family at the time.
After a rumour emerged linking the money to a mosque, Adewunmi met Ogogo’s family during the seventh-day prayers and, with the wives’ and children’s agreement, transferred the funds to the actor’s elder brother, Rilwan. Ogogo died in August 2026, aged 66.
