Okpebholo: Nigerians “enjoying” petrol prices, cites N3,000/litre cost in UK

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said petrol costs more than N3,000 per litre in the United Kingdom, claiming Nigerians are “doing very well” with current fuel prices at home, Punch reports.

Speaking on Thursday at the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State, Okpebholo said he compared fuel prices during a visit to London last week.

“Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about 3,000-something for one litre of fuel,” he said, adding, “We are doing very well here. The President is stabilising the economy. He’s an economist.”

The governor likened Nigeria’s economic reforms to a plane taking off, arguing that just as passengers wait for cruising altitude before being served food, “very soon Nigeria will be on the cruising level.”

Okpebholo further pointed to ongoing road construction as evidence of development under President Tinubu, while using the occasion to endorse Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“Is Aso Rock vacant?… I agree with the Oba of Benin that said, ‘You don’t change a working President,'” he said, closing with an assurance that Edo State and Nigeria remained in “safe hands” regardless of who eventually succeeds Tinubu.
