Ondo: VIO officer crushed to death while attempting to stop truck
A Vehicle Inspection Officer, Sesan Adediji, 35, has been crushed to death by a truck while conducting a routine vehicle inspection in Akure, Ondo State.
According to The Guardian, the incident occurred opposite Mega Primary School along Hospital Road at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday when Adediji attempted to stop the vehicle for inspection.
An eyewitness, Busayo, said the officer stepped in front of the truck as he tried to flag down the driver.
“The VIO officer was standing in front of the truck, trying to stop it for inspection. But the vehicle was already on the fast lane, and before anyone could realize what was happening, it had already knocked him down,” she said.
The eyewitness said it took several minutes before Adediji’s body was recovered from underneath the vehicle.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident, identifying the vehicle as a white Mitsubishi van with registration number AGL 992 XX.
Police also identified the driver as Ayoade Idowu, 37, of Gbogi Street, Akure.
