A major British study has revealed that 59 per cent of people living with high blood pressure are unaware of their condition and have not received treatment.

According to Euronews, researchers at the University of Oxford analysed blood pressure readings from approximately 1.4 million adults in England between 2022 and 2025.

The findings showed that more than one-third of participants had hypertension, commonly described as a “silent killer”.

Men recorded higher rates at 42 per cent, compared with 29 per cent among women.

Prevalence increased with age, affecting 15 per cent of adults aged 18 to 39 and 71 per cent of those aged 80 and above.

Researchers also discovered that half of patients receiving medication still had uncontrolled blood pressure.

Lead researcher Wenyu Liu called for improved screening and prevention strategies, particularly among younger adults.

Experts warned that undiagnosed hypertension increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes, urging earlier detection and more effective treatment nationwide.
