OPay transfer, private account, unknown sender: Real reasons Atiku is worried over strange payment into his bank account
Fresh details have emerged surrounding the suspicious credit into former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s private bank account, with fears growing that the transaction — tagged “Contribution Electioneering Campaign” — could be part of an attempt to create a financial trail linking him to unknown individuals or criminal activities ahead of 2027.
As reported by Saturday Vanguard, the unsolicited transfer originated from an OPay account, with Atiku’s camp alarmed that the private account details — not publicly available — may have been improperly accessed by someone with privileged financial system access.
The bank involved, one of Nigeria’s top five, has launched an investigation and was expected to revert with findings. Atiku’s spokesman Phrank Shaibu maintained that neither the former vice president nor his campaign authorised or solicited the payment, warning that unexplained funds could expose recipients to questions over terrorism financing or fraud links — even absent any evidence of criminal origin.
