Osun: Osogbo voters stranded as names disappear from register, BVAS fails
Voters across Osun State are being turned away from polling units on election day after discovering their names were missing from the voters’ register despite having voted at the same locations in previous elections, while widespread Bimodal Voter Accreditation System malfunctions have compounded the crisis.
As reported by SaharaReporters, at least six voters at Polling Unit 017 in Osogbo alone were affected, with one source describing the missing names as “a tactic to suppress them from voting.” Elderly voters who had previously voted at the same units were also turned away.
Osun Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi publicly criticised INEC after BVAS machines at his own polling unit failed. “It has slowed down the process leaving many persons not voting,” he said, warning that persistent malfunctions could deny eligible voters their constitutional rights.
INEC had not publicly responded to the widespread accreditation complaints as of the time of this report.
