Oyo police rescue one-month-old baby allegedly sold for N2m
The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold by her mother for N2 million in Ido Local Government Area.
According to PUNCH, police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan.
Ayanlade said the investigation began after Mary Amos reported that her 23-year-old daughter disappeared with her newborn about seven days after delivery at Ebepraise Health Centre.
Police subsequently arrested the mother, who allegedly confessed that the facility’s owner and another individual, Oludunni, facilitated the transaction.
“She confessed during interrogation that the owner of the health facility and one Oludunni lured her into the arrangement and facilitated the sale of the baby to one Folawewo,” he said.
Investigations revealed that the mother received N1 million, while the two alleged accomplices collected N500,000 each.
The baby has been rescued, while police continue searching for the suspected buyer and other individuals involved in the alleged trafficking.
