Peru elects man named Hitler Mussolini as mayor
A 45-year-old politician named Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in Peru, following a closely contested local election.
According to the BBC, Simeon Flores, who contested under the centre-left Ahora Nación party, secured 229 votes, defeating his closest opponent from the right-wing Renovación Popular Perú party by just 25 votes.
Official electoral data showed that more than 700 residents participated in the election, with the mayor-elect receiving approximately 34 per cent of the votes.
His victory has attracted international attention because his first names are identical to those of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, two notorious European dictators.
Simeon Flores was born in Queropalca, located in Peru’s central Huánuco department, approximately 360 kilometres from Lima.
The district has fewer than 1,000 residents.
A similar incident occurred in 2018 when another politician named Hitler Guesclin Alba Sánchez won a mayoral election in Yúngar, Peru, defeating a rival named Lenin Vladimir Rodríguez Valverde.
