Peter Obi: I’ll punish election riggers if I win in 2027
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed to prosecute and jail individuals involved in electoral malpractice if elected president in 2027.
According to PUNCH, Obi made the declaration on Wednesday during an NDC town hall meeting in Nasarawa State.
The former Anambra State governor warned that electoral manipulation would not be tolerated under his administration.
“Any INEC official, anybody who is involved with elections under my watch that rigs elections will go to jail,” he declared.
Obi also promised stricter eligibility requirements for political candidates, including verification of educational qualifications.
“If you didn’t attend any of them or forge your certificate, you go to jail,” he warned.
He emphasised that strengthening political institutions and enforcing electoral laws would be central to his administration.
Obi maintained that nobody, regardless of political position, should be above the law.
He reiterated his commitment to building a country where electoral integrity and accountability are upheld.
