Peter Obi: Nigeria has become the worst place to be born

NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has described Nigeria as “the worst place to be born,” citing poverty, insecurity, unemployment and hunger as major challenges confronting citizens.

In his Independence Day message, Obi said promises made by the APC government had not translated into improved living conditions, Vanguard reported.

“Despite the promises made by the APC government in 2023, our nation continues to face deepening challenges across virtually every critical sector of national life,” Obi said.

He also raised concerns about out-of-school children, insecurity, hunger and infant and maternal mortality.

“Today, Nigeria is the worst place to be born. Our youth unemployment is the highest; over 35 million youths are unemployed, and we have one of the worst drug prevalences globally,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu, however, presented a contrasting assessment in his Independence address, saying Nigeria had moved beyond the difficult phase of economic reforms and was entering an “age of prosperity.”
