Philipines VP posts bail amid assassination threat charges against president

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte posted bail Saturday after an arrest order was issued a day earlier over charges that she threatened to have President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and two others assassinated, according to a report by NBC News.

Duterte, who denies the allegations, posted 360,000 pesos ($5,740) bail for three counts of grave threats stemming from remarks made during a 2024 online news conference. She said she felt unsafe amid police presence and denied evading the law.

A conviction could bar Duterte from holding public office, including a potential 2028 presidential run. The case follows a House impeachment vote in May and an ongoing Senate trial, deepening the rift between Duterte and Marcos, once 2022 running mates from rival political dynasties.
