Police deploy DIG operations to Imo over 20 abducted persons
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Shehu Nadada, to Imo State to oversee the search-and-rescue operation for 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and other passengers abducted along the Owerri-Onitsha Road.
According to Daily Post,the victims were reportedly abducted on Thursday, October 1, 2026, around Umunoha. The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, according to the Nigeria Police Force.
Iniedu said Nadada arrived with two Commissioners of Police and assessed the scene, ongoing rescue efforts, operational strategies and deployment of personnel and assets. He subsequently issued directives to strengthen the coordinated response.
The police said additional tactical teams and resources had been deployed, while intelligence-led operations were being conducted with other security agencies.
Nadada said, “The Nigeria Police Force is committed to securing the safe rescue of the 20 abducted persons and will sustain the operation until the mission is successfully concluded,” Iniedu quoted him as saying.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information confidentially.
