Police investigates after body of man found inside bag on Brooklyn sidewalk
Authorities are investigating after a body was found inside a bag on a Brooklyn street on Thursday, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the case, NBC New York reported.
Surveillance video from overnight shows someone dropping a dark-colored bag in front of a church on East 91st Street in Canarsie, leaning it against a light pole. A second man, the driver of what may have been an unlicensed taxi, is seen standing nearby after getting out of his car. It is unclear whether the driver knew what was in the bag.
Several hours later, a man known in the community to collect scrap metal was captured on separate security video pulling the bag down the street on a hand truck. He discovered the body inside, which police believe is that of a man between 50 and 60 years old.
By 9 a.m., the corner was swarmed with police. Chopper 4 showed a heavy police presence at the scene.
The medical examiner’s office will determine how the man died. No other details on the circumstances were immediately available.
