The Presidency has acknowledged that more Nigerians have been pushed into poverty under President Bola Tinubu, attributing the development to the economic reforms being implemented by the administration.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, as reported by Vanguard,Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said the government recognised the hardship facing Nigerians but maintained that the reforms were necessary.

Bwala was responding to a report by The Economist, which said Tinubu could still win the 2027 presidential election despite growing public dissatisfaction with his administration.

The report, titled, ‘Nigerians dislike their president, but may re-elect him anyway’, highlighted worsening insecurity, the impact of economic reforms and the emergence of political challengers as possible threats to Tinubu’s re-election.

However, Bwala faulted the publication, describing it as watery and questioning the methodology used in arriving at its conclusions.

The Presidency maintained that the economic hardship was linked to difficult but necessary reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
