Putin agrees to resume peace talks with US, Ukraine to end war

Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed in principle to resume trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine and the United States to end the four-year conflict.

According to the New York Post, Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov disclosed Wednesday that discussions could resume after November 10.

The announcement followed Putin’s meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in St. Petersburg.

Ushakov said future negotiations would focus on “building a security system for Russia and Ukraine after the conflict ends”.

Witkoff had earlier met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Oslo to discuss proposed security guarantees and economic recovery arrangements.

Zelensky subsequently described the proposed guarantees as “strong”, citing “positive signals” from Washington.

The development marks a shift in Moscow’s position after Putin previously resisted direct negotiations involving US President Donald Trump and Zelensky.

However, significant disagreements remain over security arrangements, territorial issues and military operations as diplomatic efforts continue toward ending the conflict.
