Real Madrid hit by injury blow as Thibaut Courtois ruled out of Clasico
Real Madrid have suffered a major setback ahead of Sunday evening’s El Clasico, with starting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ruled out of their La Liga Matchday 10 clash against Barcelona due to flu symptoms. Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is expected to start in his place, while Ilya Voloshyn has been called up as squad backup.
According to a report by NDTV Sports, the Belgian international had previously emphasized the significance of the rivalry in an interview:
“It’s an intense rivalry. Over the last few years they have hurt us in some games; now it is time for us to respond. Winning at their ground would send a strong message.”
“First of all, we have absolutely no problem saying the names of FC Barcelona players; that’s where I think we are different. It’s not a problem for us to praise someone, even if he is our rival. We respect players who are doing a good job, unlike the other side.”
