Real reason I don’t want to be called richest man in Africa — Dangote
Billionaire Aliko Dangote has launched the Initial Public Offering of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals on the Nigerian Exchange in Lagos on Monday — the first time a refinery has been listed on the Exchange in its 66-year history — while declaring he no longer wants to be called Africa’s richest man.
“I don’t want anybody again to call me the richest man in Africa. I want to be called the wealthiest man in Africa so that I can create wealth for others,” Dangote said while sounding the NGX gong.
According to Vanguard, the IPO offers 4.1 billion ordinary shares at N525 per share — with a minimum subscription of 10 shares at N5,250 — and runs from September 14 to October 13, 2026. Dangote described the offering as an opportunity to “participate in the transformational chapter of not only Nigeria’s economy, but Africa’s economy.”
