Retired police officers protest at National Assembly over pension scheme
Retired police officers under the Police Retired Officers Forum of Nigeria have protested at the National Assembly, demanding President Bola Tinubu’s assent to a bill removing the Nigeria Police Force from the Contributory Pension Scheme.
According to SaharaReporters, the retirees gathered at the National Assembly gate on Wednesday, carrying placards and chanting, “President Bola Tinubu signing our bill.”
The protesters described the pension arrangement as “miserable” and accused the Federal Government of delaying action on the Police Exit Bill.
The demonstration followed Monday’s seven-hour occupation of the National Pension Commission headquarters in Abuja.
One protester said PenCom’s secretary and legal adviser, Mohamed Sani, told them the Director-General, Omolola Oloworaran, was working to improve their retirement benefits.
However, the retirees insisted on leaving the scheme entirely.
Forum leader CSP Raphael Irowainu (retd.) said the protest was aimed at persuading Tinubu to assent to the bill passed by the National Assembly on December 4, 2025.
