Ronaldo says this season is likely his last as he maps out his post-football future with family
Cristiano Ronaldo has strongly hinted that his playing career is drawing to a close, telling Vogue magazine that the current season at Al-Nassr is “probably my last year of football,” according to BBC Sport.
The 41-year-old, who married his partner Georgina Rodriguez on Tuesday, said he has his post-football life “all mapped out,” adding: “Football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways. Have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, and continue to enjoy what we’ve earned — because after all it’s been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice.”
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner and five-time Champions League champion, has won league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia and remains the all-time top scorer in men’s international football. He is 24 goals away from the extraordinary milestone of 1,000 senior career goals — a feat he may yet achieve in his final season.
The Portugal captain has one year remaining on his contract with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr. He watched from the stands as Al-Nassr opened their title defence against Al Fateh on Saturday without featuring.
His long-time rival Lionel Messi — who led Argentina to the 2026 World Cup final, scoring eight goals — has also recently expressed uncertainty about how much longer he will continue playing, setting up a poignant final chapter to football’s greatest ever rivalry.
