Saudi oil pipeline shut after drone strike — Trump says Iran likely to blame
US President Donald Trump said Iran was “probably” behind the drone attack launched from Iraq that shut down a vital oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia, according to CNN.
The East-West Pipeline was struck by several drones on Thursday, causing injuries and some damage, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry said, further noting the pipeline had been shut as a precautionary measure.
Speaking to reporters in Dublin, Trump said “I think they are, probably they are,” though a key umbrella group of Iran-backed militias in Iraq has denied responsibility.
A CNN source said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had urged Trump twice on Thursday to strike the Houthis as they advance toward the Red Sea, but Trump declined.
Iraq has since closed several of its borders as a precautionary measure, while condemning the attack and ordering an investigation.
