School resumption: Lamentations as fees go up 40%
Rising fuel and operational costs may force some private schools in Lagos to issue fresh fee bills to parents, while others are suspending school bus services, Vanguard.
A parent, John Aderiye, said he had resorted to hiring a neighbourhood tricyclist to take his son to school because spending about N10,000 on fuel for daily trips was unsustainable. A school owner in Alagbado has also stopped operating school buses due to rising fuel and maintenance costs.
Lagos NAPPS president Yusuf Alaka defended fee increases of up to 40 per cent, citing rising costs, unpaid fees and taxes, while NAPTAN urged proprietors to limit increases to 20 per cent.
