Shehu Sani to NCDC: ‘People will claim to have Ebola to collect N100,000’
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has warned the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) that its decision to pay ₦100,000 weekly to individuals isolated over Ebola could encourage false claims of infection.
According to Daily Post, Sani raised the concern on Monday, October 26, 2026, in a post on his verified X account.
His warning followed an announcement by NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, that 53 contacts linked to the confirmed Ebola case in Abuja would receive ₦100,000 weekly during their 21-day monitoring period.
The allowance is intended to cover feeding, accommodation and family support for those placed in isolation.
Reacting, Sani cautioned that the financial incentive could encourage individuals to falsely claim exposure to the virus to receive payments.
“The NCDC reportedly said they will give 100k weekly to anyone they keep in isolation over the Ebola virus.
“They should be careful because some people can come forward and claim they have the virus because of the 100k,” he wrote.
Sani urged the agency to properly verify contacts to prevent abuse of the funds.
The 53 monitored contacts reportedly include healthcare workers and household members.
