Shettima jets back to Abuja as Nigeria pushes for AU-led conflict solution

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after standing in for President Bola Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Luanda, Angola.

According to Naija News, the Nigerian delegation used the summit to press for stronger African-led solutions to the continent’s conflicts, throwing its weight behind the Luanda Action Plan as a framework for preventing crises before they escalate.

Nigeria also raised the alarm over recurring xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks on Africans in South Africa, calling for urgent continental intervention.

However, Shettima’s homecoming was overshadowed by criticism from PRP National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who questioned who was running the country given the simultaneous absence of both the President and his deputy.

Baba-Ahmed further alleged that Tinubu’s overseas trip was tied to lingering controversies surrounding him.
