Six Arab Football Federations back Infantino amid FIFA crisis
Six Arab football federations have declared their full support for FIFA president Gianni Infantino as pressure mounts over his leadership. According to Naharnet, Morocco, Qatar, Egypt, Mauritania, Lebanon and Sudan expressed confidence in Infantino’s leadership and commitment to global football development.
Their backing comes after Infantino withdrew a proposed $20 billion private investment plan for the World Cup following widespread opposition. UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation have criticised FIFA’s handling of the proposal, while several national associations have withdrawn support for Infantino’s expected re-election bid. Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and remains the favourite for another term.
