Soldiers feared killed as Boko Haram terrorists attack military base in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked a military formation in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving an unspecified number of soldiers feared dead.
The attack reportedly occurred around midnight on Tuesday and lasted over two hours.
According to The PUNCH, Guzamala Local Government Chairman Umar Sheriff confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that no civilians were killed.
“The incident occurred last night around 12 am. Though I don’t have statistics regarding the casualties yet, because it’s not everything we are told. It’s a security matter. But I know that no civilian was killed.”
Sheriff said troops successfully repelled the attackers despite the intensity of the assault.
“They have never attacked as much as this time, but thank God, the military were able to repel them,” he stressed.
Local sources claimed both soldiers and terrorists suffered casualties, although the figures remain unverified.
One source suggested seven soldiers might have been killed.
The military had yet to officially confirm casualties as of press time.
