Sowore to Davido: Your uncle is the real ‘arindin’ — and your whole family feeds off Nigerians’ suffering
A social media war between Afrobeats superstar Davido and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore erupted Saturday, August 15, on the sidelines of the Osun State governorship election — and Sowore did not hold back.
The clash was triggered by a pre-election interview in which Sowore described Davido’s uncle, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, as “brainless” with “nothing upstairs,” and characterised Osogbo, the state capital, as a “war zone,” according to Vanguard.
Davido responded by sharing a clip of the interview on X and calling Sowore an “Arindin” — a Yoruba term for someone considered foolish or unintelligent. That insult opened a door Sowore walked through with considerable force.
In a detailed, withering response, Sowore redirected the slur squarely at Governor Adeleke, writing: “The real arindin is your uncle, @AAdeleke_01, who had to go back and obtain the equivalent of a GED after he had already served as a Nigerian Senator.” He also attacked Adeleke’s political judgement, criticising his decision to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election as a calculated attempt to preserve the family’s grip on Osun State.
Sowore then widened his fire to include Davido himself and the broader Adeleke political dynasty, writing: “The real arindin is your uncle who chose @officialABAT as his presidential candidate, apparently hoping that imbecilic political loyalty would allow your family to continue treating Osun State as a private estate to finance your extravagant lifestyle.”
He concluded with a sweeping condemnation: “All of you are the same anyway — oppressive, corrupt, incompetent and entitled spoilt brats, feeding off the pain, suffering and sorrow of Nigerians. But the tables will turn. The Nigerian people will not endure this forever.”
The exchange drew massive reactions online, with Nigerians sharply divided between those who backed Davido’s election-day activism and those who agreed with Sowore’s charge that the superstar’s democratic outrage was motivated entirely by family interest rather than genuine civic conviction.
