Super Falcons miss Women’s World Cup for first time in over 30 years
Nigeria’s Super Falcons will miss the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time since the tournament began in 1991 after losing 2-1 to South Africa in a crucial playoff in Casablanca on Thursday. According to Premium Times, Thembi Kgatlana opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Refiloe Jane doubled South Africa’s advantage in the 77th.
Christy Ucheibe pulled one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but Nigeria could not complete a comeback. Jane was sent off before the late goal. South Africa and Ghana advance to the inter-confederation playoff tournament for the 2027 World Cup.
