Supreme Court clears Trump to continue White House ballroom construction

The Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for President Donald Trump to continue construction of a new White House ballroom, CNN reports. In a 5-4 ruling, the conservative majority found that the National Trust for Historic Preservation likely lacked standing to challenge the nearly 90,000-square-foot project, without ruling on its lawfulness.

Chief Justice John Roberts, joined by the court’s three liberals, dissented, calling the construction “likely unlawful” and warning it infringes on Congress’s power of the purse. Trump has defended the ballroom as necessary for national security and views it as central to his presidential legacy.
