The mistake you’re making in the morning that’s wrecking your sleep at night…
Sleep experts have warned that waking up at inconsistent times each morning could disrupt night-time sleep, even among people who maintain good bedtime routines.
According to a report by The Washington Post, maintaining a consistent wake-up time helps regulate the body’s internal clock and improves the natural drive to sleep at night.
The report explained that irregular waking schedules can interfere with the circadian rhythm, the body’s natural 24-hour cycle that regulates sleep and wakefulness.
Sleep experts Jennifer Caspari and Neal Walia emphasised the importance of consistency, noting that the body builds sleep pressure throughout the day through the accumulation of adenosine, a chemical associated with tiredness.
The experts advised people to maintain regular waking times, including weekends, while limiting variations to about an hour where possible.
They also recommended enjoyable morning activities and exposure to natural sunlight to help regulate the sleep-wake cycle.
According to the report, inconsistent sleep schedules have also been linked to long-term health risks, including cardiovascular problems.
