Tinubu ‘desperate’ to maintain power ahead of 2027 – US firm
As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, United States advocacy firm Von Batten-Montague-York has alleged that President Bola Tinubu is excessively desperate to remain in power.
In a statement shared via its verified X handle, as reported by Daily Post, the firm accused the administration of weaponizing the judiciary, police, and electoral bodies to manipulate the upcoming polls. The remarks followed the recent arrest of five individuals in Borno State for wearing “Tinubu Must Go” T-shirts.
The organization emphasized the importance of US support for Nigerians defending democracy, stating: “Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is desperate to remain in power for many self-beneficial reasons, including something called head-of-state immunity, a doctrine that can protect sitting heads of state from the jurisdiction of foreign courts while they remain in office.”
The firm further claimed that head-of-state immunity shields him from potential scrutiny regarding historical allegations.
