Tinubu: No journalist will be punished for criticising me
President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian journalists they can criticise or attack him without fearing retaliation from his administration, reaffirming his commitment to press freedom.
According to Vanguard, Tinubu spoke Thursday at the Daily Times centenary celebration in Abuja, where he was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
Tinubu said his administration recognised the media’s constitutional role in shaping Nigeria’s development and holding leaders accountable.
“Under this government, you can insult, attack the President and go to bed without midnight march,” he said.
The President also described the media as a custodian of Nigeria’s collective memory and stressed the importance of documenting the country’s history to guide future generations and strengthen national development.
