Tinubu orders comprehensive reform of Nigerian Football after Gusau resignation
President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive reform of Nigerian football following the resignation of Nigeria Football Federation president Ibrahim Gusau and other senior officials, according to Premium Times. The president said the overhaul should tackle long-standing problems affecting governance, administration, stakeholder representation, player development, domestic competitions and accountability.
Tinubu also directed the National Sports Commission chairman to work with the NFF secretariat and football stakeholders to maintain continuity while the reform process gets underway. The initiative comes after Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and the Super Falcons’ historic absence from the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The NFF elective congress is scheduled for September 27.
