Tinubu to speak to Nigerians on 66th Independence anniversary on Thursday

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address Nigerians on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 7 a.m., to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary, according to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), published by Peoples Gazette. The statement was dated September 30, 2026.

Mr Tinubu returned from a three-week vacation to Europe on Tuesday, the publication reported. His return came two days before the scheduled national broadcast. The statement did not indicate the content of the address. Nigeria will mark its 66th Independence anniversary on Thursday.

The statement further advised all television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media outlets, to join the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the presidential broadcast. Broadcasters are to join the network services at the scheduled time of 7 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, when the president is due to deliver his address to the nation, the statement said.
