Trump administration moves to raise H-1B visa fee above $100,000

The Trump administration has proposed a $103,265 fee for new H-1B visas targeting highly skilled foreign workers, Peoples Gazette reports.

The Department of Homeland Security posted the proposed regulation on the Federal Register Monday, ahead of a 30-day public comment period. Trump first imposed a $100,000 fee in September 2025, up from the typical $2,000-$5,000 range, but a federal court invalidated it in June as unconstitutional.

With the proclamation expiring in September, Trump has directed DHS to make the fee permanent. Employers registered for about 344,000 H-1B visas in 2025, a 25 percent decrease from 2024.
