FIFA stars demand Gianni Infantino step down amid growing pressure
FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing mounting pressure to leave his position after several prominent football figures publicly called for change at the governing body. According to the Daily Mail, former France and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre shared a statement declaring “enough is enough”, with 1998 World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit and England star Lucy Bronze also supporting the message.
The statement accused FIFA leadership of moving away from football’s core values and criticised major decisions being made without adequate consultation with players and supporters. Infantino has already faced opposition from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin and several confederations over plans involving private investment in a company linked to World Cup operations. With FIFA’s presidential election scheduled for March, pressure on the Swiss administrator appears to be intensifying.
