NAFDAC steps up enforcement of sachet, small PET alcoholic drinks ban, warns sellers

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified enforcement of the Federal Government’s ban on alcoholic drinks sold in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml, according to a Sahara Reporters report.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the crackdown followed the expiration of transition periods granted to manufacturers. The agency warned violators face regulatory sanctions, including product recalls, facility closures and placement on its Watchlist. Enforcement, effective since January 2026, targets manufacturers, markets, motor parks, retail outlets and bars nationwide, as NAFDAC seeks to curb alcohol access among children and young persons across the country.
