Late Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan revealed how he got his stage name ‘Ogogo’
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, once revealed how he got his stage name, according to a Tribune Online report.
In a 2024 interview with City People, Hassan said the name originated from his family’s Oriki, a traditional Yoruba praise poetry.
He began his career as an Akede Oba, reciting eulogies for kings and chiefs, earning him the nickname “Olohun Iyo” before colleagues adopted “Ogogo” from his family’s praise name. Hassan, who started acting in 1981, died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 66, after battling stage-four cancer. He was buried in Ogun State.
