Trump administration returns to Supreme Court over third-country deportations

The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to let it resume deporting illegal aliens to “Safe Third Countries” when migrants cannot be sent to their home nations, according to a Breitbart report.

In an emergency filing on Thursday, Solicitor General D. John Sauer asked the justices to pause a February ruling by U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy that struck down the Department of Homeland Security’s third-country removal policy, marking the third time the administration has taken the fight to the high court.

Sauer said the policy had run for 15 months, moving thousands of detainees out of the country, and described its targets as “some of the worst of the worst criminal aliens” whose home countries refuse to accept them.

The First Circuit upheld most of Murphy’s ruling on September 18, and Murphy’s order snapped back into force late Wednesday after lawyers for migrants flagged a planned deportation flight to several African countries.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has given migrants’ lawyers until 4 p.m. Monday to respond.
