TUC secretary general accused of diverting 400 bags of FG rice meant for workers
Sources within Nigeria’s labour movement have accused TUC Secretary General Nuhu Toro of diverting 400 bags of Federal Government rice intended for union members in 2024. The sources alleged that Toro stored the rice at his residence in Karu, Nasarawa State, until some bags deteriorated. They claimed TUC officials and employees received nothing, while outsiders benefited. The allegations have raised concerns about accountability and transparency in managing relief materials allocated to organised labour.
Sources within Nigeria’s labour movement have accused Trade Union Congress (TUC) Secretary General Nuhu Toro of allegedly diverting 400 bags of Federal Government rice meant for union members.
According to SaharaReporters, the rice was allocated to the union in 2024 to cushion the economic hardship caused by petrol subsidy removal.
The sources alleged that Toro moved the bags to his private residence in Karu, Nasarawa State, where some reportedly began deteriorating.
“The TUC got 400 bags, but Mr Toro, the TUC Secretary General, diverted it to his house in Karu, where he kept it until some started spoiling,” a source alleged.
The sources claimed that neither TUC executives nor secretariat employees received the allocation.
They further alleged that some bags were eventually distributed to individuals outside the union.
The allegations have not been independently verified, and Toro’s response was not included in the report.
The sources called for greater accountability in the management of union resources.
