Two Nigerians, Ezechukwu and Olukoya, declared wanted by US over $3.1 million Medicare fraud conspiracy
United States authorities have declared two Nigerians wanted over separate allegations involving a $3.1 million Medicare fraud scheme and drug trafficking conspiracy.
According to Peoples Gazette, Ezechukwu Joshua Ohaka, 57, allegedly submitted fraudulent Medicare claims through his Houston-based company, Luant & Odera Inc.
The US Department of Health and Human Services accused Ohaka and his associates of billing Medicare approximately $3.1 million for medically unnecessary equipment, including wheelchairs and motorised scooters.
Authorities alleged that the scheme generated approximately $1.08 million in proceeds.
Ohaka reportedly posed as a medical doctor, identifying himself as “Dr. Joshua Ohaka,” while targeting beneficiaries affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Investigators also alleged that some beneficiaries received inferior equipment or products they never requested.
Meanwhile, the US Drug Enforcement Administration declared another Nigerian, Tayo Muyiwa Olukoya, 57, wanted over alleged conspiracy to possess and distribute controlled substances.
Olukoya, also known as “Uncle,” is wanted in Indiana’s Southern District.
Both cases involve separate federal investigations.
