Two suspected Ebola cases identified in Nigeria’s North-East
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has identified two suspected Ebola patients in the North-East region, according to a report by Peoples Gazette. The agency disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, October 31. Both individuals have been placed in isolation.
The NCDC said it was undertaking contact identification and listing, while laboratory testing was also being conducted. In the statement, the agency said, “Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region. Both individuals have been isolated, contact identification and listing is ongoing, and laboratory testing is being conducted.”
However, the NCDC clarified that being classified as suspected cases did not mean they were confirmed Ebola cases, noting that confirmation was subject to laboratory results. The agency advised members of the public to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities. The NCDC also promised to provide further updates as verified information became available.
