UNILAG, Birmingham University unveil joint postgraduate programmes in AI, digital media
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, have launched two joint postgraduate programmes in artificial intelligence, data technologies and digital media.
According to TheCable, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the development on Friday, stating that academic activities would commence in September 2027.
The programmes cover Artificial Intelligence and Data Technologies, alongside Digital Media and Communications.
Alausa disclosed that both institutions signed a partnership agreement on January 29, 2026, under Nigeria’s transnational education initiative.
He added that plans were underway to introduce bachelor’s degree programmes in market-relevant disciplines next year.
The minister said the collaboration supports the Education Quality Assurance pillar of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.
He commended both universities, the National Universities Commission, TETFund and the British High Commission for facilitating the agreement.
“This is what meaningful international partnerships can achieve,” Alausa said.
He maintained that the initiative would expand educational opportunities and strengthen Nigeria’s international academic partnerships.
