US congressman calls on Trump to retain Nigeria on religious freedom blacklist after Plateau massacre

Share:

US Congressman Riley Moore has urged the Trump administration to keep Nigeria on Washington’s religious freedom blacklist following the killing of at least 23 people in Plateau State.

According to SaharaReporters, Moore cited the attack on Binper community in Mangu Local Government Area, arguing that violence against Christians remains widespread in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

The Republican lawmaker opposed removing Nigeria’s “Country of Particular Concern” designation, saying security improvements elsewhere had not ended attacks in the region.

Moore also criticised the Biden administration’s earlier removal of Nigeria from the list and called for stronger action against religious violence nationwide.
