Victor Ikpeba names who was responsible for Super Eagles’ 3-0 defeat

Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has defended goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from criticism following the Super Eagles’ 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, according to Daily Post Nigeria. Ikpeba instead blamed Nigeria’s defensive organisation, particularly for the goals conceded during the disappointing defeat.

Franculino opened the scoring after 15 minutes before Mama Baldé doubled Guinea-Bissau’s advantage in the 66th minute, while Álvaro Djaló added a third in stoppage time. Speaking to SuperSport, Ikpeba said Nwabali had little chance of stopping Baldé’s well-placed effort, while criticising Nigeria’s failure to mark opponents effectively. He also pointed to poor reactions after possession was lost as a key factor behind the third goal. Nigeria currently sit second in Group L with three points and will face Tanzania in November.
