Virgil van Dijk to hold talks with Xavi over Netherlands future

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk will meet new Netherlands head coach Xavi before deciding whether to continue his international career. According to Liverpool Echo, the 35-year-old defender remains open to representing the Netherlands despite concerns over his workload.

Van Dijk said his decision would depend partly on discussions with Xavi and whether he continues to feel valued within the national team. The centre-back played every minute of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign and accumulated 5,841 minutes for club and country before the tournament. He has also rejected the idea of retiring internationally simply to prolong his Liverpool career.
