Why Atiku boycotted Peace Accord
The African Democratic Congress has explained that presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar’s absence from Tuesday’s national Peace Accord stemmed from the failure of previous agreements to curb election-related violence, according to Peoples Gazette.
ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the party boycotted the event to protest the Peace Accord Committee’s silence over Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s alleged threats of violence during the Osun governorship election. He noted that despite repeated peace signings each election cycle, killings and harassment persist unchecked. Abdullahi said the boycott was meant to pressure the committee into holding political actors accountable for inflammatory remarks.
