Why I rejected Tinubu’s 2027 campaign DG role – Wike
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has explained why he did not take up the role of Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign, saying his non-APC membership made the question moot and that he was unwilling to risk losing his home state the way previous campaign DGs had.
Speaking after inspecting roads in Abuja on Saturday, as reported by Daily Post, Wike cited former campaigns DGs Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal and Simon Lalong — all of whom lost their states after heading presidential campaigns. “Political relevance is not about the position you hold in a campaign. What matters is your ability to deliver your state,” he said.
Wike said he remains committed to Tinubu’s re-election through a cross-party Rainbow Coalition, coordinating support in the FCT and Rivers State from outside the APC structure — mirroring his 2023 approach. Senator Abdulaziz Yari has since been named the official APC Presidential Campaign Council Director-General.
