“Will you quit now?” Presidency challenges Obi over Anambra debts

The Presidency has asked Labour Party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whether he will withdraw from the race following the release of debt records from his tenure as Anambra State governor, according to THISDAY. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the Anambra State government had presented documents indicating Obi left unpaid pensions, gratuities, and salaries for Water Corporation workers and teachers, and had taken loans for what he described as non-essential expenses.

The Anambra government, in a statement by Commissioner for Information Law Mefor, said Obi’s administration spent about $4.05 billion over eight years and left $123.77 million in external debt. It disputed Obi’s earlier claim that he departed office without outstanding liabilities.
